I was in the same position as OP with slow healer. It took about 4 to 5 weeks, splinted the entire time of course. In short, You have a 7/25/100% chance on a zombie sourced Scratch/Laceration/Bite of being infected by the Zombie virus. The game will not tell you if you've contracted the zombie virus; There is no clear indication of it anywhere. Panic also depends on zombie quantity, as everyone knows, but also depends on the distance between character and the zombie, the field of vision, the sound, lighting and zombie aggro. You get more panic if zombies are closer ...Really wish the game let you inspect a wound so you could tell the severity of it, possibly with a more accurate diagnosis with a higher First Aid skill.
